London set for urban vineyard'

Published:  23 July, 2008

London's central business district will see a splash of green this summer with the introduction of its very own urban vineyard.

The initiative is the brainchild of Australian wine producer McGuigan Simeon and will be installed in the heart of the capital in early 2008.

Marking the launch of some new additions to the McGuigan portfolio, the vineyard will be in place for three days and mirror the set-up of its Hunter Valley home.

Paul Schaafsma, European regional director, said: "The McGuigan City Vineyard will provide a fantastic experience for the UK consumer by bringing a piece of Australia to the heart of one of the most populated and urbanised areas of the city."

A similar project run in Australia last year proved very successful, according to company marketing director Samantha Bragg.

She said: "Bringing our vines to the heart of Sydney last November was an extraordinary experience and we were overwhelmed by the huge numbers of people who attended. I'm thrilled that we can bring this unique event to London and engage with the city's wine lovers to showcase great Australian wines."
