Rioja Wine Month winners announced

Published:  20 December, 2021

The winners of the inaugural Rioja Wine Month campaign (formerly Shop Rioja) have been announced, after an upsurge of sales throughout the autumn.

Wine merchants, independent retailers, wine bars and restaurants throughout the country all took part in the campaign, designed to increase sales of Rioja during October, in addition to increasing listings and adding value to the category.

Organised in collaboration with Harpers, some of the variety of activities included hosted promotions, events and tastings (virtual and in person), and social media marketing.

Bottles Wine Bar & Merchants, based in Worcester, was the winner of the on-trade prize, while top off-trade campaign went to The Wine Cellar, situated in the Isle of Man.

VinoMondo and The VineKing were the runners up.

Universally regarded as a great success, the project saw Rioja sales rise by an average of 175% in October 2021, when compared to last year. Strengthening its premium and super-premium credentials, the mean price of each bottle sold was £16.02, well above the national average.
