Champagne Jacquart has announced the appointment of a new export director for the UK and Irish markets.

Champagne Jacquart has announced the appointment of a new export director for the UK and Irish markets.

Mamadou Gueye will oversee both on-trade and off-trade sales for Jacquart.

Gueye, 44, joins from the Loire merchant, Marcel Sautejeau, a subsidiary of Castel, where he was export director. Prior to this, Gueye was assistant director of the Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins de Nantes.

His previous experience also includes sales and marketing positions at the Lyonnaise des Eaux-Dumez and at the Centre International pour le Commerce Extérieur in his native, Senegal.

Commenting on the appointment, Jacquart & Associes distribution managing director, Jean-Marc Pottiez, said: "The UK market is a priority for us (making up) one third of our export business, as important as our exports to all other Continental Europe countries.

Having a senior director dedicated to UK and Ireland is a serious investment for Jacquart, but obvious investment, which shows our commitment to both markets, where we're consolidating our distribution and strengthening our position."

Added Gueye: "There has to be a thread which connects the on trade and off trade. The two sides of the business are both as important and in my new position I can ensure that there will be co-coordinated activity across the board, making it more rational and more effective."
