Australian wine exports boosted by UK surge

A surge in exports to the United Kingdom has underpinned a new 12-month record for Australian wine exports.

Australia exported $3.04 billion (1.343bn) worth of wine in the year ended October, the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation has said.

This is a 10% increase on the corresponding period last year, the AWBC's October wine export approval report showed.

The UK market remained Australia's most lucrative with exports valued at $982 million (434.13).

Some 291m litres of Australian wine was exported to the UK in the 12 months to the end of October.

The United States (216m litres valued at $953 million (421.27m) was the second biggest market, followed by Canada (51m litres valued at $287 million (128.86m).

New Zealand $103m (45.53) was rated the fourth most valuable market with Ireland and the Netherlands equal fifth, both at $75 million (33.16m).
