Vinexpo breaks 50,000 barrier

Published:  23 July, 2008

More than 50,000 people from 154 countries attended this year's Vinexpo wine fair in Bordeaux, a 3% rise on the previous event in 2005.

One-third of the visitors were from outside France, nearly 1,350 journalists attended the event, while Asia and Russia sent more people to Vinexpo than ever before.

New to this year's event was a 400-metre floating bridge, linking the Convention Centre and the Palais de Congres, which housed numerous seminars and tastings.

More than 3,000 people crossed the bridge each day, and was described by Vinexpo chief executive Robert Beynat as a "technical marvel".

The next Vinexpo event will be Vinexpo Asia-Pacific, which will take place in Hong Kong between 27-29 May 2008, with the 15th Bordeaux Vinexpo being held in June 2009.
