The government's former senior policy adviser on alcohol is to join the Wine and Spirit Trade Association.
Stephen Hogg will be on secondment from the Home Office for initially a year from 30 April 2007.
He will lead the WSTA's work on areas including licensing, alcohol disorder zones and social responsibility best practice.
Hogg will also help the WSTA develop its relationships with parliamentarians through the All Party Parliamentary Wine & Spirit Group.
Jeremy Beadles, WSTA chief executive, said: I am delighted to have someone with Stephen's knowledge and experience on board. This shows our commitment to developing our team to best manage our members' interests.
Stephen brings a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the current government policy agenda.'
