For more than five decades, Bardolino, as a region, has been tagged as one of the poor relations of Italian winemaking, famous only for making low-quality but pleasant easy-drinkers that non-involved consumers might choose to glug with their pasta or pizza.
A huge variety of wines from the region can be found at Bardolino guru Gennaro Cipriani's shop Enoteca La Bottegaccia, Via Solferino 29, 37011, Bardolino (tel: +39 0456 211 316; email: labottegaccia.b@libero.it).
HBJ imports Rizzardi in England and Wales, while Wine Importers Edinburgh represents Rizzardi in Scotland. Vinum imports Cavalchina/La Prendina; Lenotti's importer in the UK is Mondial Wine; Valvona & Crolla in Edinburgh imports some Le Fraghe; and Winetraders in London (01993 848 777) represents Giovanna Tantini.
