Hahn Family Wines must hope the growing cycling community will get behind its new Californian wine from Lodi, Boneshaker.
Available through its UK partner, Patriarche Wine, it is named after the first cycles made in the late 1880s - the Velocipede - which being made entirely out of wood, and later with metal tyres, would give riders quite an uncomfortable ride and the reputation of being known as "boneshakers". Made from the same winery that produces Cycles Gladiator, it hopes to offer a rather more smooth example of classic Lodi Zinfandel (85%) supported by touches of Cabernet Sauvignon (7%), Merlot (6%) and Petite Sirah (2%). It is being targeted at multiple specialist retail chains. It retails with a rrp of £19.99. Hahn Family Wines also has a Pinot Gris variety available for the first time in the UK (rpp £12.33-£13.99).
