Diageo shows strength with 7% profit boost

In the run-up to Diageo's annual results, the shares outperformed the London market, but when the figures revealed an 11% rise in pre-tax profits, they dropped by almost 3%, writes Ron Emler.

Diageo Great Britain (GB) has appointed David Smith as sales director. It is the first time the position has existed and has been created to streamline the multiple sales functions within the company.'

As sales director, Smith will be responsible for managing the grocery, convenience, route to market, wholesale, on-trade retail and field sales teams.

Smith joined Diageo GB in 2000 as marketing director for Guinness. His most recent position was field sales director, with responsibility for Diageo GB's 300-strong on-trade team.
