United Wine Growers launches first brand

Published:  07 December, 2020

United Wine Growers has taken the plunge with the launch of its first brand.

Named Black Beauty, the first wine out of the stables is 100% Garnacha Tintorera, and aimed at the retail market in the UK, along with “key” European markets and China.

Featuring grapes sourced from Spain’s D.O. Almansa, Black Beauty is produced in partnership with Bodegas Santa Cruz de Alpera, a leading cooperative on the region.

The aim, said United Wine Growers, was to craft a wine “to be a very consumer friendly red”, mixing up lots of character and intensity” with a freshness that comes from vineyards sited at 700 metres altitude.

"We are both at a time of the year when markets and customers within are looking at new product development and introduction for 2021," said Peter Crameri, sales director at United Wine Growers.

"We also took the opportunity to choose our Garnacha Tintorera, being a rather unique grape variety as we know this will contribute to meeting today’s demand in the consumer market for something good, different with a story, at an attractive price-point."

Garnacha Tintorera is also known as Alicante Bouschet in France, originally being a cross between Grenache and Petit-Bouschet, with this onetime workhorse variety now increasingly savoured for its juicy appeal, down to thick, almost black grape skins.

Black Beauty carries an RRP of £7.99 in the UK and is also, said United Wine Growers, “expected to appeal to the more trendy consumers” in markets such as China.
