Peter takes charge
Kendall-Jackson has announced that former Normans Wines winemaker Peter Fraser is the new winemaker in charge of its Yangarra Park project. The wines, shown at the London International Wine & Spirits Fair and Vinexpo, are due to be released in September as four varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz and Chardonnay. Fraser's brief is to seek out the prized fruit from each leading wine region and blend it into bottlings that show off premier varietal flavours. The guiding philosophy for the brand is "The best Australian varietal wines under $10". "Peter brings a deft and cosmopolitan style to the wines of Yangarra Park, a style that comes from rich experience as cellar-hand, winemaker, wine judge and consultant," said K-J Winemaster Randy Ullom. "His insights into Australian terroir clearly show in his excellent first vintages." K-J says that a reserve tier will be launched early in 2002, featuring Kendall-Jackson's "Flavor Domaine" philosophy, which translates Down Under as "The Best Australian Varietal Wines from the Best Appellations." Fraser is known to have worked hard to establish ties with growers in South Eastern Australia in all his winemaking posts, and brings the same approach and contacts to Yangarra Park.
