Bancroft Wines appointed UK agent for Petaluma

Published:  12 July, 2016

Bancroft Wines is the new UK agent for Australian agency Petaluma, based in the Adelaide Hills and last represented in the UK four years ago by Bibendum.

Petaluma has since invested in building a new winery in Adelaide Hill's Woodside, which opened in 2014 and allows all winery operations to take place on one site.

The production capacity has increased to a potential 2,000 tonnes of fruit a year vs 150 tonnes when Petaluma was founded in 1976. This year the winery celebrated its biggest vintage yet, calling it "one of exceptional quality".

The company cites its successes as having unlocked the potential of Riesling from the Hanlin Hill Vineyard in Clare, pioneered the Piccadilly Valley and Mount Barker in the Adelaide Hills and cementied the pedigree of the Evans Vineyard in Coonawarra, South Australia.

Bancroft Wines managing director Neil McAndrew said: "Bancroft Wines has a strong track record of working with top Australian brands and the iconic brand status of Petaluma perfectly complements our existing range. We believe the quality of top Aussie wine is currently better than ever.

Head of purchasing David Murphy added: "Petaluma is one of the iconic brands of modern Australian wine and we are delighted to reintroduce it to those who remember it fondly, while also being able to present the range to a whole new generation of consumer.

Petaluma's flagship Yellow Label range includes the Hanlin Hill Clare Valley Riesling, Piccadilly Valley Chardonnay and Evans Vineyard Coonawarra Cabernet. The most recent addition to the range is an Adelaide Hills B&V Vineyard Shiraz. Bancroft Wines will offer all four yellow label wines, as well as the more premium, single vineyard Tiers Chardonnay, of which only 200-400 cases are made annually.

In association with Bancroft Wines, Petaluma head winemaker Andrew Hardy will be hosting a trade and press drop-in tasting of the wines at M Victoria today, July 12, from 10:30am-6:30pm including some older vintage stock.
