Boutinot adds premium Provence rosé to roster

Published:  29 March, 2016

Leading UK agency Boutinot has added organic Provence estate Château Gairoird to its portfolio.

It is the first time that Château Gairoird has been represented in the UK market,

The estate comprises a 45ha domaine outside the village of Cuers in the Côtes de Provence AOC.

It is currently owned and managed by Olivier Pierrefeu, a fourth generation winemaker.

Sally Holloway, Boutinot's French wine buyer, said: "We are pleased to have the opportunity to work with Olivier, a quiet and thoughtful winemaker; he has been looking for a partner to help him establish a reputation for his estate wines.

"He grows numerous Provence cépages including Grenache, Cinsault, Rolle, Syrah and Tibouren on typical Provence terroir - chalky-clay soil dotted with galets - that is perfect for classic Provence rosé."

Holloway has been working closely with Pierrefeu on the Château Gairoird 2015 Rosé cuvée, which will be available through Boutinot to both the off and on-trade in the UK at a retail price of £11.99.

Founded in 1980 and based in Cheshire, Boutinot now represents over 1,400 wines and 100 wineries from around the world.

It also produces its own wines under the Made by Boutinot marque, owning production facilities, cellars and vineyards in France, Italy and South Africa, and sourcing wines from growers in other wine-producing countries, such as Spain, Chile and Australia.

The company sells more than 44 million bottles each year.

Château Gairoird replaces Château Moutête in the Boutinot portfolio, which was sold to Domaine Ott in 2014.

Sales of Provence rosé wines rose considerably in the UK in 2015, up 37% by volume year on year and 11% by value, according to figures from regional marketing body, the Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins de Provence.

French wine and spirits export volumes fell back 3.6% over the same period.
