Flint Wines to unveil the reborn Domaine Launay-Horiot at 2016 en primeur tasting
London-based on-trade supplier Flint Wines has added Burgundy's resurrected Domaine Launay-Horiot estate to its portfolio.
The estate's wines will be introduced to the trade at the importer's Burgundy en primeur tasting in January.
Domaine Launay-Horiot was mothballed for 11 years while a dispute over the estate of Raymond Launay, who died in 2000, raged through the French courts.
It is now run by Launay's grandson, Xavier Horiot.
The 4 ha estate is primarily based in Pommard, but also includes two parcels of grand cru land: 0.16 ha in Chambertin and 0.17 ha of Latricières-Chambertin.
Tim Atkin MW has described the Launay-Horiot wines produced from the Gevrey-Chambertin vines as "brilliant expressions of these contrasting vineyards".
The Flint Wines tasting will feature over 40 Burgundian growers and upward of 150 wines.
Jason Haynes, Burgundy buyer at Flint Wines, said of the region's 2014 wines: "The whites are stunning. Some commentators are claiming they are the best examples for over two decades.
"Stylistically they are a hybrid of 2007 and 2010; the minerality and raciness of the former with the depth and extract of the latter which is a pretty exciting combination.
"The reds are a delight. It seems to be a vintage that will seduce in youth with its juicy transparency but there is enough weight and acidity to give longevity too.
"Both fruit lovers and purists will fall in love with it in equal measure. It is difficult to make exact vintage comparisons, but what is clear, is that it's a vintage of undoubted potential."
The 2014 vintage was troubled by hail, particularly in Côte de Beaune.
However, a warm September provided most growers with enough sunshine to deliver both quantity and quality when it came to harvest.
"Production is generally up on recent vintages, helping to ease the pressure on pricing," Haynes said.
"Coupled with the strength of Sterling, consumers will be able to get their hands on these great wines at eminently sensible prices."
Founded in 2006, Flint Wines specialises in the wines of Burgundy, North America and Italy.
The Flint Wines Burgundy en primeur tasting will take place on Tuesday 12th January 2016 at One Whitehall Place, London SW1A 2EJ.
