Chef Angela Hartnett to open second London restaurant

Published:  07 October, 2013

Angela Hartnett, the chef and proprietor of Michelin-starred Murano in Mayfair, will be opening a second restaurant, Café Murano, in mid-November on the original site of Petrus, where her career began.

The head chef, Sam Williams, who has worked alongside Hartnett at Murano for the past two years, and the current Murano head chef, Diego Cardoso, will be the team overseeing the launch of the new site.

Café Murano will focus on northern Italian cuisine and the main restaurant will have 75 covers, including seating for 12 at the bar, and a private dining room for larger groups.

Pasta will be an obvious highlight of the menu, with inventive offerings such as fettuccine with wild boar; and gnocchi with sautéed ceps, parsley and garlic. Main dishes, which start under £20, will include roasted monkfish tail, brown shrimps and golden raisins, and Pork with cocoa beans and celery.

An exclusively Italian wine list, which was selected by Marc-Andréa Lévy, head sommelier at Murano, features 100 of the more innovative Italian producers. The bar will serve drinks, including some Italian classics, as well as traditional aperitivi and antipasti offerings.

What's an Italian restaurant without gelato? There will be a daily changing ice cream menu featuring homemade flavours such as fig and Moscato. Other classic Italian desserts and a selection of cheeses, including Parmesan and aged balsamic and Gorgonzola with Barolo-poached pears, for example, will also be on the menu.

Hartnett said: "Café Murano will offer regionally focused dishes, at an accessible price point, in a relaxed and informal atmosphere - the kind of restaurant I would enjoy eating in every day."
