Lucas Bols has announced the launch of Bols Honey Liqueur to offer bartenders a new twist for cocktails.
Bols Honey Liqueur, which has an abv of 17%, is the result of consultations with 20,000 bartenders.
It has been created by Bols master distiller Piet Van Leijenhorst "to offer something new to the on-trade and provide a valuable alternative to sugar as a sweetener in cocktails", the group said this week. It added that the liqueur also overcomes traditional practical issues associated with using natural honey.
Lucas Bols chief executive, Huub van Doorne, said: "We discovered that honey is the most popular alternative to sugar in cocktails even though it is extremely difficult to work with behind the bar, often sticking to the bottom of the glass."
Bols Honey Liqueur is made from a blend of different honeys, including acacia, sunflower and malt. It will be priced similarly to other Bols liqueurs and is set to be available in both 50cl and 70cl bottles.
It has a strong malty taste with buttery, vanilla notes and a hint of orange peel on the nose, the firm said. The liqueur will officially launch at Bar Convent Berlin on October 8-9.
