NEW JOB FOR EX-PIPER PIRIE

Published:  23 July, 2008

Dr Andrew Pirie, the recently deposed managing director and winemaker of the Tasmanian producer Pipers Brook Vineyard, has been appointed chief executive officer of Parker Coonawarra Estate. Pirie will oversee the day-to-day management, viticultural operations, winemaking and brand management of Parker Coonawarra Estate. Pirie said: I first met the late John Parker of Parker Estate three years ago and discovered that we shared a passion for making wine at the top level. Parker is a no-compromise brand with a strong commitment to cool-climate viticulture,' he said. I am now delighted to be able to take over John's role in guiding the production and marketing of the wine.' Pirie was awarded the Order of Australia in 2000 for services to the wine and tourism industry. He also plans to write an advanced level text on the impact of climate and soil on wine quality.
