Premium focus for Skalli

Published:  24 February, 2011

Southern French wine producer, Skalli has said it will be focusing its efforts on premium wine production in future.

It said the move would "improve efficiency to meet the challenges of the current global economic situation and changing market priorities".

President Robert Skalli said: "We're experiencing very strong growth in newer markets in the Far East where Skalli has become the benchmark for premium southern French wines. In 2010 sales grew by more than 60% in China alone.

"But more mature markets such as Europe and the UK - one of our most important export markets - have been more heavily affected by the global economic crisis.

"However we've built excellent long-term relationships with importers and distributors in these markets. Our new structure and focus will ensure we are best placed to drive further penetration in these more challenging regions."

The company said that none of its lines would be disappearing from the UK. It reports that sales of its fine wines - including St Supery, Domaine de Silene and Clos Poggiale - grew volume by 36% in the UK over the past 12 months, and its Rhone Valley brand Caves Saint Pierre grew by 18% in volume over the same period.
