Longer hours confirmed for Royal Wedding

Published:  12 January, 2011

The Home Office has confirmed plans for on-trade outlets to be allowed extended opening hours and put on live entertainment on the weekend of the Royal Wedding.

Licence holders would normally have to apply to the local council for a Temporary Event Notice at a cost of £21 if they wish to extend their permitted opening hours and put on entertainment if not already permitted to do so.

The government is proposing to make a special order under the terms of the Licensing Act 2003 to extend opening hours on April 29 and 30 from 11pm and 1am.

Crime prevention minister James Brokenshire said: "The Royal Wedding is a time of national celebration and we want everyone to be able to participate.

"We recognise that many people may want to extend their festivities."

A consultation on the plans will run until January 26.
