Fuller's, the London brewer and pubs operator, has reported a big increase in profits, helped by a strong performance from its wine division.

Pre-tax profits rose 11% to almost £17m in the six months to September 25, while revenue increased by 6% to just over £24m.

Chairman Michael Turner said: "Our wine business continued to grow its volumes, with a particularly strong performance coming from sales through our direct delivered free trade. Our one-stop-shop, offering premium products and a premium service is increasingly attractive to independent free traders looking to stand out in a tough market."

Like-for-like sales in the managed pubs and hotels arm rose 3.3% during the six months to September 26. The increase was attributed to a focus on higher-margin food and accommodation business.
