BERRYS ON THE BUNCH

Published:  23 July, 2008

The Bunch, the group of independent wine merchants formed in 1992 to provide a united voice' for the independent trade, has been joined by Berry Bros & Rudd. The Bunch's seventh member joins Adnams, John Armit, Corney & Barrow, Lay & Wheeler, Tanners and Yapp. We were approached by the other members, who asked us to join and we decided to accept,' said Alun Griffiths MW, wine director of Berry Bros & Rudd. We are delighted to be joining such a dynamic and highly respected group,' added Griffiths. We shall contribute to and build on their successful work in championing the unique attributes of independent wine merchants. Branded wines have assumed an ever-growing prevalence in the multiple sector,' he added. To give balance, the role of the independent merchants in offering the customer reassurance and choice across a broader range of wines is of increasing importance in today's market.' Amanda Skinner, MD of John Armit Wines, said: Berry Brothers shares our highest ideals, in terms of the wines that it sells and the customer service that it offers, and it is a welcome addition to the group.' Jason Yapp, welcoming Berry Bros to the fold, said: We must work together to foster individuality and freedom of choice.' Berry Bros' first activity as part of The Bunch will be at the group's annual press and trade tasting, to be held in January. The group also holds a consumer tasting for private clients, in September, and a number of smaller promotional events.
