Recovery boosts Campari sales

Published:  14 May, 2010

The economic recovery and a first contribution from Wild Turkey Bourbon have helped Italian drinks group Campari post impressive growth figures for the first quarter of 2010.

Sales were up 22.9% at €233.6 million with profits before one-offs ahead by a similar level at €59.1 million.

Campari brand sales increased by 18.2%, largely thanks to a strong recovery in Brazil, while Skyy vodka was up 17.9% helped by strong consumption of its Infusions sub-brand in the US.

Spirits increased their contribution to the Campari sales mix from 70% to 76%, and wine sales were 11% up, driven by Cinzano sparkling wines.

Chief executive officer Bob Kunze-Concewitz said: "While results were helped by a return to a more normal trading patterns across the Americas, as well as by the effects of the Wild Turkey acquisition, our overall performance continued to be mostly impacted by strong consumption momentum across key brand and market combinations, especially in our core aperitif business in Europe."
