Scotland's oldest wine merchant, Cockburns of Leith, whose customers have included writers Sir Walter Scott and Charles Dickens has been placed into administration.
Administrators Ernst & Young have been called in to run the two-century old firm that was one of the first commercial importers of wine into Scotland and whose business supplied retail, trade and corporate customers throughout the UK.
Joint administrator, Colin Dempster said: "The group has been impacted by the recent economic downturn, which has unfortunately led to a declining order book and the directors concluding that the business can no longer continue to trade.
"We are actively marketing the business for sale and are keen to hear from any interested parties."
