Inverarity Vaults opens Edinburgh branch

Published:  17 December, 2009

Scotland's largest independent wine merchant, Inverarity Vaults, has opened a further new outlet in Edinburgh in addition to its Glasgow branch which opened in 2007.

Scotland's largest independent wine merchant, Inverarity Vaults, has opened a further new outlet in Edinburgh in addition to its Glasgow branch which opened in 2007.

The new Inverarity One to One comes on the back of the company doubling its sale force in the last 12-months and managing director Hamish Martin's aim for a more ambitious sales drive, from which he said he hopes to see sales increase by 25 - 30% in 2010/2011.

Bucking the trend in a recession Martin said: "Operating in a downturn is still tough, but I think there's limitless scope available, in difficult times there always seems to be more opportunity."

"Most people tend to bury their heads under the sand thinking things will go away, but you can't do that you have to make difficult decisions and forge ahead."

Martin said he runs the business as strictly as he can and has an ethos of employing strong staff from van drivers to sales staff  all who take WSET qualifications.

The new branch which opened on December 1, sells all the core Inverarity lines over 500 wines and whiskies and will be a hub for the trade, where customers can come in and engage with their sales rep, discuss wine lists and take part in tastings.

It also incorporates a wine school offering WSET courses up to level 3 and a fortnightly wine club from January which will be hosted by Herald wine columnist Tom Bruce-Gardyne.
