LAFFER'S TRIUMPH

Published:  23 July, 2008

Phil Laffer, the chief winemaker at Jacob's Creek, has been named Australian Winemaker of the Year 2002. Laffer has been with Jacob's Creek - which was named as the UK's seventh best-selling drinks brand in this year's AC Nielsen off-trade figures - for the past ten years. During his tenure Jacob's Creek has grown from a relatively small domestic operation to a global giant that exports to 65 countries around the world. Wine's Peter Forrestal, chairman of judges at the Qantas/Australian Gourmet Traveller Wine Awards, said Laffer was a visionary who's made the Australian wine industry so successful in export markets'. * Tom Myers has been voted San Luis Obispo County winemaker of the year at the Californian Mid-State Fair. Myers has been winemaker at Castoro Cellars for the past 12 years.
