Dourthe UK to distribute Canard Duchene

Published:  17 April, 2009

Dourthe UK has secured the off-trade distribution for the Champagne house Canard Duchene.

Alain Thiénot, who owns a major stake in the Bordeaux producer/negociant, CVBG Dourthe Kressmann, will move the UK distribution of Champagne Canard-Duchêne to Dourthe UK for the off-trade on June 1.

Champagne & Châteaux will continue to represent Canard-Duchêne in the on-trade and independent sectors.

Dourthe UK lists Bordeaux châteaux, Bordeaux brands, Château de Sérame in the Languedoc and Clos de los Siete from Argentina in its portfolio.

Chief executive officer Patrick Jestin, of CVBG Dourthe Kressmann said: "We are excited about adding Canard-Duchêne to our UK list.

"This historic house has 140 years of proven credentials.

"It is one of the great independent Champagne houses in the Appellation today and the fifth Champagne brand in the off-trade in France."

Champagne Canard-Duchêne, founded in 1868 by Victor Canard, a cooper and Léonie Duchêne, a wine grower, was bought by Alain Thiénot from Veuve Cliquot in October 2003.

Champagne Canard-Duchêne is located in Ludes, in the heart of Champagne.

It produces a selection of quality Champagnes, predominantly from Pinot Noir, within its "Classic Range" and "Grands Cuvées Range".

Dourthe UK will be showing a range of Champagnes from Canard-Duchêne on its stand at the LIWF at H40/3.
