Campari looks to Skyy for growth

Published:  18 March, 2009

Skyy vodka and the Aperol aperitif were among the brand highlights for Gruppo Campari, which posted organic sales growth of 2.7% in 2008, and saw net profit rise 1.1% to Euros 126.5 million.

Sales of Skyy grew by 11.1% based on constant exchange rates and Aperol was ahead by 13.3%.

Glen Grant gained market share in the declining whisky market in Italy, despite a sales fall of 4.6 % during the year.

The wine portfolio registered growth of 4.1%, including a strong performance from Cinzano, ahead by 9.5% on like-for-like exchange rates.

Chief executive officer Bob Kunze-Concewtiz said: "We achieved solid results in spite of a significantly worsening economic environment.

"We obtained positive organic growth in sales as well as in all operating profit indicators thanks to cost containment.

"While we maintain a cautious stance during the current year, we are positive about the company's prospects. The underlying business is healthy."
