WSTA pushes supplier auctions

Published:  09 March, 2009

The Wine & Spirit Association is urging its members in the UK to consider reverse e-auctions as a way of saving money on supplies.

The advice comes after Halewood International - the producer of Lambrini and Red Square vodka - saved over £50,000 on packaging and labels using the service provided by WSTA Procurement, part of the organisation's member services section.

Two online reverse auctions saw a pool of suppliers bidding to provide the company with their products for the lowest prices.

Halewood purchasing director Ian Duffy said: "Initially, we were sceptical about the auction service, but I can honestly say that this member service has been a significant benefit to our business, and we have more auctions scheduled during the coming months."

WSTA chief executive Jeremy Beadles added: "I strongly recommend other members use this technique to maximise competition in providing products and services."
