The biggest promotional campaign to showcase a variety of wines bearing the Fairtrade logo gets underway today.

Fairtrade Fortnight runs until March 8 and aims to highlight the quality and variety of wines under the label.

Retailers across the UK are supporting Fairtrade Fortnight with a range of in store offers. Award-winning Chilean Fairtrade wine producer Equality by Las Lomas will be included in a number of in store promotions.

Equality Sauvignon Blanc 2007 will be in the line up of the 2008 Fairtrade Wine Competition winners on show at Vinopolis during Fairtrade Fortnight as part of their 'Fairtrade & Fabulous' feature.

The Equality range of wines is produced by Las Lomas at their co-operative winery at Cauquenes (COVICA Ltda) in the Maule Valley.

Since their launch in 2006 the wines have earned some impressive awards, including a gold medal in the International Wine Challenge, trophy for Best Fairtrade White Wine in the first ever Fairtrade Wine Competition in 2007 and an award for Best Value Chilean White in the competition last year.

UK importer, agent and distributor Nicholas Ingham of Equality Wines Ltd was recently recognised by Las Lomas for his ongoing work with them since 1997 and for helping to bring about a programme of social and environmental benefits to the area in which the wines are produced.

Ingham says: "Equality is securing a future for its growers and winery workers, who now have a route to market at a truly fair price. For our customers we wanted to change their perception and engage their support for Fairtrade. It gives us a great sense of pride to know that we are investing in the future of the industry.

"It's quite simple - you don't have to change your shopping habits - just enjoy a bottle of great wine from Chile and know that you are making a difference to the producers and their communities."

Sales of Faritrade wines continue to flourish, growing by 47% by volume and 51% by value during the period 2006-2007.
