Castel is extending its involvement with wines from the Bordeaux region and targeting more upmarket clients, following its acquisition of Bordeaux wine merchant Oenoalliance six months ago.

Castel says it has increased its offer of Châteaux wines and has now access to Grands Crus classes.

The sale of Castel's water company has also enabled Castel to concentrate solely on its wine activities.

Castel says that acquiring Oenoalliance, one of the major wine producers in Bordeaux, has also allowed it to benefit from additional grape sourcing in terms of own label wines.

When Castel bought Oenoalliance in April this year, it acquired 2500 hectares, in partnership with local producers and 150 small Chateaux.

Castel is one of the largest vineyard owners in Bordeaux with fourteen family-owned Châteaux. The company now produces a total of 160 million bottles a year, among which 110 million are bottled on site.

Frédéric Verborg, marketing manager for Castel UK, said: "The acquisition of Oenoalliance completes our offering and allows us to answer any of our customer's requirements. Whether they are looking for brands, own-labels, family-owned châteaux, special lots or Grands Crus, we can be a one-stop-shop solution for all their Bordeaux needs."
