FAIR LAUNCH FOR SIR CLIFF

Published:  23 July, 2008

By Christian Davis

Sir Cliff Richard launched the first vintage of the wine made on his Quinta do Moinho estate on the Algarve, in Portugal, on the Harpers stand at the London International Wine & Spirits Fair. Australian winemaker David Baverstock, who lives in Portugal and made the wine, told Harpers it is a blend of 40% Shiraz, 30% Aragonez (Tempranillo), 20% Trincadeira and 10% Mourvdre, aged in American and French oak. Sir Cliff told Harpers that a neighbour is to add his vineyard's fruit to Cliff's eight hectares and they are to build a winery together. The wine, which has been in bottle only four weeks, is distributed by John E. Fells. It is to be listed by Waitrose at 7.99 and probably by one other multiple retailer.
