Drop in sales for Australians

Published:  23 July, 2008

Australian wine exports fell 7% by volume to 737 million litres. Value declined by 2% to A$2.85 billion (1.32bn).

However it saw an average price increase of 5% to A$3.86 per litre in the 12 months ending March 2008.

A 30% decline in bulk shipments and 45% fall in soft-pack shipments contributed to the decline. But bottled volumes were up 4%, according to the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation (AWBC).

In the UK, the AWBC said volumes were strong but average prices had fallen.
