New wine train carries 350,000 bottles a day

Published:  23 July, 2008

JF Hillebrand, the wine industry logistics specialist, has introduced a new rail service which can transport more than 350,000 bottles a day.

The service, which runs between Tilbury and Daventry, has been coined the Wine Train' and represents over 1 million of investment over the last two years.

It is estimated the rail service saves an average of 326 km (204 miles) per road-trip equivalent - around 1.7 billion grams of CO2 savings per-year.

Foster's EMEA, which provides Australian wines such as Lindemans, Wolf Blass, Rosemount, Penfolds and Beringer to the UK market, is among the primary customers for the service.
