Majestic experiences strong Christmas sales

Published:  23 July, 2008

Despite a disappointing start, sales at Majestic rallied in the nine weeks of Christmas trading.

Figures out today from the wine retailer showed there was a 1.2% increase in sales between October 30 and December 31 2007.

Tim How, Majestic Wine PLC chief executive, said there was a late spike in Christmas trading.

He commented: "A good December performance followed a disappointing November. Like for like UK sales for the five weeks ending December 31 2007 were up 4.1%."

Majestic saw 16.2 million profit before tax in 2007 - this marks the company's fourteenth consecutive year of growth.
