Published:  23 July, 2008

Allied Domecq Plc has formed a partnership with the US brewer Miller to introduce a range of alternative malt beverages'. The first two will be based on Allied's Stolichnaya vodka and Sauza tequila. These will be available in more than 500,000 retail outlets in the US by spring, using Miller's distributor network. The plan is to launch more brands based on Allied's core spirits brands as the market develops. Allied CEO Philip Bowman said: We will be the only player with a strong premium brand presence across multiple categories of ready-to-drink malt beverages. By leveraging Miller's production capabilities, its broad distribution system and strong sales and marketing organisation, and capitalising on the strong brand equity of our productions, we are moving into this category in an innovative way.' The companies are initially investing $50 million.
