American wine regions regulations attacked by vintners
The 300-strong Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) organisation has attacked regulation proposals for American wine regions.
The group has warned that revised regulations to American Viticultural Areas "will undermine decades of work on the part of the wine industry".
It suggests that the current areas system puts US growers on a similar footing to rivals in other parts of the world, and has expressed fears that US wines will be labelled with inaccurate regional designations if the changes go ahead.
The NVV believes the move could "jeopardise" the integrity of many winemakers, and undermine long-standing consumer legislation.
It additionally claimed that the changes could damage wine making across America, not just in the Napa Valley.
The reforms are being proposed by the US Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and trade Bureau.
