CLARET COMPANIES WOUND UP

Published:  23 July, 2008

By Jim Budd

City Vintners, Goldman Williams and Boington & Fredericks were wound up in the High Court on 16 January. Although City Vintners and Goldman Williams had unsuccessfully challenged the appointment of the provisional liquidator at a hearing in the High Court on 7 December, the final act was over in two minutes, as neither company contested the petitions. The Insolvency Service has been appointed as receiver to all three companies. City Vintners and Goldman Williams were the two most successful' claret web companies. London City Bond is holding wine for 1,450 clients which was sold for more than 18 million. This wine is estimated now to be worth around 7-8 million. Harpers is aware of one client of Goldman Williams who invested 150,000 in an order that included cases of 1996 Ptrus and '95 Le Pin. The Insolvency Service does not know how much wine was ordered by clients of these companies just before they were closed and which was not transferred into clients' names. Clients who do not have certificates for their wines should contact Cheryl Lambert at the Insolvency Service, on 020 7637 6366; fax: 020 7637 6390. The DTI petition to wind up Liquid Acquisitions Ltd is being contested. No date has yet been set for the hearing.
