Published:  23 July, 2008

Bowmore Distillers has seen 10,000 bottles of expensive stock stolen.

Destined for the UK Christmas market, the consignment of 10,000 bottles of Bowmore Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky was stolen on Tuesday December 4.

Valued at around 300,000, thieves took the haulage load at midday from a driver in Hertfordshire.

Glen Moore, Brand Director at Bowmore, commented on the incident.

He said: "We are confident we will be able to supply all retailers with Bowmore and customers will still be able to buy Scotland's no1 Islay malt whisky for Christmas.

"Unfortunately Single Malt Whisky cannot be distilled today and bottled tomorrow it will take up to twenty five years to replace the older stock."

Bowmore's UK Distributor, Cellar Trends, said retailers should remain vigilant and contact authorities if offered Bowmore Single Malt from a suspicious source.

The stolen stock varied in age from 12-year-old to 25-year-old matured whisky.
