Published:  23 July, 2008

UK: Retail sales volumes were up by 1.4% in the three months to the end of October, according to the Office of National Statistics.

The rise follows 1.6% growth in the three months to September, the official figures said.

Sales volumes for predominantly food stores grew by 1.2%, which the ONS said was the highest growth for this sector since August 2006.

At predominantly non-food stores, the three-month growth figure was 1.4%.

Measured against the same period last year, sales volumes for predominantly food stores were up by 1.7%, the largest increase since October 2006, when the growth rate was 2%.

But monthly figures showed a 0.1% decrease in sales volumes between September and October, with predominantly food stores down by 0.4%.
