French-Vietnamese firm invests in mountain vineyard

A Vietnamese-French joint venture is set to put the mountain resort of Da Lat on the global wine map.
Dalat Beco Spirit Company and Scea De La Cote have invested more than 312,000 to form a joint venture called Da Lat Grapes vineyard.
The venture plans to plant four French grape varieties - Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet, and Caladoc - on 10ha in Ta Nung commune, in the Lam Dong region.
De Lat Grapes wants to expand its plantations to 50ha, producing 1million litres of wine by 2009.
Daniel Carsol, an experienced French viticulturist whose grandparents and parents also devoted their lives to growing grapes, is the director of Da Lat Grapes.
He owns a 150ha-strong vineyard in Ctes du Rhne, France.
