Roussillon food-matching event gets ready for 2007 launch

Published:  23 July, 2008

The second Roussillon Dessert Trophy, which looks for the best food match for a Roussillon dessert wine, is about to launch.

The competition, devised by Wines of Roussillon, and run in association with the Academy of Food and Wine, looks to find the most talented sommelier/pastry chef combination in the UK, by asking them to submit a dessert, and a suitable Vin Doux Naturel to accompany it.

Judges include wine writer Sarah Jane Evans MW and Les Caves de Pyrne MD Eric Narioo.

Wines of Roussillon export manager Eric Aracil said: "The 2007 Roussillon Dessert Trophy puts the limelight on British pastry chefs and sommeliers and encourages them to go further in developing their knowledge and expressing their creativity.

"We are looking forward to more interesting recipes and flavour combinations coming out of the UK this year."

Last year's winners were sommelier Anke Carmen Hartmann & chef Rebecca Kinsella from Chewton Glen, who paired Poached Black Plums and Anise Chiboust mille-feuille with a 2003 Domaine du Mas Blanc, Banyuls Rimage.
