GREAT WESTERN BACKS THE WAITING GAME

Great Western Wines is supporting a programme of independently run wine courses for their hotel and restaurant customers. The first one-day course for 20 waiting staff was organised and presented by Richard Bampfield MW at Lucknam Park Hotel, Colerne, Wiltshire, on 29 October. Among the subjects covered were essential wine knowledge, wine tasting, understanding the customer's needs, wine service and matching food and wine. Joel Lauga of Great Western Wines said: It is very important to motivate your staff by helping them to learn and understand their products, and to give them a sense of pride in their job. The catering industry as a whole needs to put more time and energy into training, to equip its staff with the right tools to communicate better with customers and provide them with good service.'
