Underage binge drinkers still a problem

The number of children who buy and drink alcohol is on the wane but revealed those who do drink are regular binge drinkers.
A new survey released today by Trading Standards shows the proportion of schoolchildren aged 14-plus who buy their own alcohol has fallen from 40% to 28% in the past two years. The number that drink has fallen too but only by 6%.
Nearly a third of youngster who do drink are regular binge drinkers, consuming five or more units at least once a week.
Just over half of binge drinkers admite to having been violent when drinking and 22% say they regretted having sex while drunk.
The findings follow a survey of nearly 12,000 schoolchildren in North West England.
