Wine packaging confuses customers

Published:  23 July, 2008

A large majority of UK consumers do not know what constitutes organic, Fairtrade and bio-dynamic wines, according to Wine Intelligence (WI) research in association with Harpers.

Consumers said the main reason for not purchasing organic wine is a "perceived lack of availability. 26% of women and 41% of men said they never see it where they shop.

With packaging, nearly half of the consumers believe that glass wine bottles are an environmentally friendly packaging format.

But if consumers were made more aware of the environmental benefits of, for instance, bag in box over glass then they may be inclined to buy them.
