New direction for United Brands

Published:  23 July, 2008

United Brands is under new management, and major changes have already been made.

Mark Dawkins and Rob Preston have left Gonzalez Byass to become the major shareholders in the company. The pair have introduced a new logo and moved the office from London to Hampshire.

Dawkins said: We were going to set up a new business from scratch but United lost the Dooleys contract at the end of last year and we thought they might wind down the operation. The company already has the name and goodwill, but we'll be taking it in a new direction.'

It has retained its tequila brands - XXX and Casa Nobl - and the Bennachie whisky portfolio, and introduced ABK6 Cognac, La Mare Jersey Cream Liqueur and a Brazilian bottled lager, Nova Schin, to the range.

The pair also intend to expand the company's wine offering. Dawkins said: Although United's strapline is "Beers, Wines and Spirits", it didn't have any beers and only a couple of wines.

We intend to introduce five or six wines that are established in the UK, and have already been approached by several brands who are unsatisfied with their current distributor.'
