London sweeps the board in Tatler restaurant awards

Published:  23 July, 2008

London's restaurants took every prize at the Tatler/Champagne Louis Roederer restaurant awards last week, with The Wolseley named restaurant of the year.

The wine bar 1707, at Fortnum & Mason's London store, took the prize for best wine list at the ceremony, which was held at The Dorchester hotel, London.

Only two months after winning the Rmy Martin Excellence Award, Arbutus restaurant in Soho took the title of best newcomer, as well as being shortlisted for the Fabulous Food Award, which eventually went to The Greenhouse in Mayfair.

Gilgamesh was named most original restaurant, with Le Gavroche the most consistently excellent restaurant. Fred Sirieix of Galvin at Windows won best front of house.

The 'It' Room 2007 went to L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon, in central London, and the Louis Roederer Lifetime Achievement Award was won by Jesus Adorno of Le Caprice.

Out of 33 restaurants shortlisted at the awards, only five restaurants were based outside of London. The awards were presented by Tatler's restaurant editor Jeremy Wayne, and Louis Roederer CEO Frdric Rouzard.

Full details can be found in the Tatler Restaurant Guide 2007 in the February issue of Tatler magazine.
