Gin is currently one of the most active and interesting of all the spirit categories. Worldwide it sells over 50 million cases - right up in the international spirits market, making it a major force. But if we listen to the pundits, we could easily be convinced that gin's days are numbered, with all the signs indicating declining sales worldwide. There is no disputing that, in the past five years, the category has experienced a 6% fall in terms of volume; at the same time, the great gin renaissance shows no signs of slowing down. How can both these contradictory trends be true?

BEEFEATER (40% abv)

Well balanced and distinctively juniper on the palate with lemon and orange very evident. Spicy clean finish.

BOMBAY SAPPHIRE (40% abv)

Understated juniper with Parma violet and a melange of spices giving floral, slightly scented notes. Smooth but rather thin finish.

GORDON'S DISTILLERS CUT (40% abv)

Lemongrass and ginger combined with less strong juniper than the standard Gordon's results in a robust yet delicately flavoured, clean, aromatic gin with a spicy, lingering finish.

GREENALLS ORIGINAL DRY (40% abv)

Strongly citrus on the nose, smooth and dry with a lingering, spicy, minty finish.

HENDRICK'S GIN (41.4% abv)

Robust juniper and citrus flavours enhanced with fresh, floral, slightly aromatic notes. Silky smooth texture and mouthfeel.

TANQUERAY 10 (47.3% abv)

An immediate impression of core citrus and juniper accented by soothing notes of chamomile enlivened with hints of grapefruit, orange and lime. Exceptionally smooth finish.

PLYMOUTH DRY GIN (43% abv)

Elegant in the mouth with a range of complex fruity notes, luscious marshmallow and hints of sage and eucalyptus. Rich rounded finish.
