Angela Mount, Somerfield's wine trading manager for the past 15 years, is to leave the company.

Mount, who joined the retailer when it changed its name from The Gateway Corporation, told Harpers that she intends to stay in the wine trade, but would not comment further on her plans.

She said: I've had a fantastic opportunity at Somerfield and I'm very proud of what I've done in building up the range and the credibility of the wine department.' She said: Fifteen years ago, we had a minimal share of the wine market, but now it's fair to say that we have a very strong reputation for quality.'

A spokesman for Somerfield, who praised Mount for all

her hard work', added that the company would be announcing details of its new wine buying team shortly'.
