Tyrrell's gives it both barrels

Published:  23 July, 2008

Australian producer Tyrrell's has just launched a top-end red wine from McLaren Vale.

The 2003 DB 24 Shiraz will retail for around 40, and the UK has only been allocated 50 cases of the wine. The 'DB' part stands for 'Double Barrel' - Tyrrell told Harpers that the wine goes into new oak for 12 months, then after a brief period back in tank, goes into a fresh batch of new oak for another 12 months.

He added that to mark its 150th anniversary in 2008, a dinner is to be held, with guests including all the winemakers who have worked at the winery. The condition is that they bring 'two bottles of the best wine they have ever made with them', added Tyrrell.
