In what the two companies have described as a landmark deal', Amazon and Virgin Wines have launched a new Wine Store at Amazon.co.uk through a trusted partner' strategic alliance. This follows Amazon's recent announcement of similar alliances with Carphone Warehouse, Waterstone's and Expedia.co.uk. The deal will give Amazon's three million customers access to Virgin Wines' 8,500-strong online wine selection via a co-branded site, called Amazon.co.uk Wine Store, and brings together Europe's largest online retailer and Europe's leading online wine retailer'. The site will also feature relevant products from Amazon's existing offering, such as wine tasting and buying guides. Under the agreement, Virgin will be responsible for stocking, selling and delivering wine to Amazon customers. Rowan Gormley, CEO of Virgin Wines, called the alliance a huge vote of confidence in the future of e-commerce. We know that wine, like books and music, really benefits from the information-rich environment of the Internet. It is particularly pleasing for us to be partnering the most successful online retailer to bring the world of wine to a wider audience.' Robin Terrell, managing director, Amazon.co.uk, added: We are thrilled to announce this alliance. There is great synergy between our two brands as Virgin Wines and Amazon share the same obsession for customer service.'
